Reach: Classroom Construction
In Tanzania, students often learn in overcrowded classrooms that are in very poor condition. Many of these classrooms hold up to 50-100 students at a time, and teachers often have nothing more than a blackboard for instruction.
AfricAid has provided funding for the construction of classrooms at several schools in Tanzania, in order to help enhance the quality of education for thousands of Tanzanian students!
Losinoni Primary School
Grade Level: Primary School
Area of Focus: Providing a quality, public education to young Maasai students
Sponsorship: $10,000 builds a new classroom at Losinoni
Losinoni Primary School is located in a rural Maasai village in Tanzania. The Losinoni community has demonstrated an extraordinary commitment to supporting their education of their children. Since 2004, AfricAid has partnered with this community to provide funding for the construction and renovation of several classrooms and a much-needed school latrine facility, helped develop a micro-credit arrangement for the funding of a school lunch program for the school’s 750 students, and has most recently helped fund the installation of solar power project, providing Losinoni students and teachers with electricity for the very first time.
Additionally, in 2009, Losinoni students wrote a children’s book, On My Way to School, describing their multiple-mile walk to school each day. Through the sales of this book, Losinoni has outfitted its classrooms with much-needed desks and furniture.

Area of Focus: Equipping students with marketable vocational skills that will allow them to compete for scarce jobs upon graduation
Sponsorship: $10,000 builds a new classroom at Muungano
Since 2006, AfricAid has partnered with Muungano to build classrooms and outfit the school’s first vocational training workshops. Through grants from the Western Union Foundation and the Dorothea Haus Ross Foundation, AfricAid has supported the construction of a tailoring workshop and computer lab at Muungano. The tailoring workshop now provides a source of income for the school, as students are learning to sew school uniforms that are then sold in the community – and, at the same time, they are learning a marketable skill for the future!
