REACH: Primary School Scholarships

In Tanzania, many students struggle to gain access to the most basic education. That is why AfricAid provides primary school scholarships at the following schools that are delivering high-quality education to Tanzanian children.

Upendo English Medium Primary School

Where: Usa River, Tanzania
Grade Level: Nursery School through 7
Area of Focus: Providing interactive, English-language instruction
Sponsorship: $500 per year
Communication: Sponsors are paired with a student and receive approximately two letters per year

The Upendo Primary School offers an innovative, interactive curriculum to introduce English instruction at the primary school level in Tanzania. This gives young students in an impoverished community in northern Tanzania a vital head start in English skills. With those skills, Upendo students will be able to perform well on their national exams in secondary school, all of which are written in English. The founder of Upendo, Joseph Kitia, proudly shares with visitors that the students have outperformed other classes across the region – even despite the challenges they face at home.

Seeds of Hope for Sudanese Refugees

Where: Nakuru, Kenya
Grade Level: Primary and Secondary School
Area of Focus: Providing Sudanese refugees with high-quality education
Sponsorship: $1,200 per year
Communication: Sponsors are paired with a student and receive several letters and a report card each year

Seeds of Hope was started by Arok Garang, a Lost Boy who fled from southern Sudan when he was a child. After years in a Kenyan refugee camp, he was provided refuge in Colorado. He has used his time in the United States to raise money to support his fellow refugees in their primary and secondary education. These students attend a high-quality boarding school that is preparing them to become future teachers, heads of school, and leaders in a new, rebuilt Southern Sudan. (Please note that ongoing communication will be handled through Seeds of Hope, a partner of AfricAid.)
